Easter Week in Toledo
Easter Week in Toledo, declared a Festival of National and Regional Tourist Interest since the 16th June 1992, is the Imperial City’s second most important festival, after the Corpus Christi.
- Other data
- The procession on Holy Saturday is particularly impressive, as are those of the Wednesday, Thursday and Good Friday, with the participation of different orders. It is worth noting the skill with which the statues turn the tight street corners.
- How to get there
- Road transport
The processions passing through the narrow and hidden streets of Toledo are great to contemplate. Of particular interest are Holy Wednesday, with the presence of the Penitent Horsemen of Christ the Redeemer who appear lit by lanterns. On Maundy Thursday the Cristo de las Vegas passes through the covered streets of Toledo. On Good Friday there is the Cristo del Buen Fin with it’s crowned skull and the Santo Sepulcro, accompanied by the Horsemen of the same name, walking in file, in order of antiquity and accompanied by the “armaos”.
However, if any of them deserve special attention it is the procession on Holy Saturday, in which the penitents of the Brotherhood of Cristo de la Buena Muerte wait, lit by torches, on their knees, for the Cristo de San Juan de los Reyes to come out.
