The Tower of Alvar Fáñez
The Torreón de Alvar Fáñez is, by its nature, one of the emblems of the city of Guadalajara. A Moorish tower, declared a monument in 1921, it owes its name to the knight who was a friend and companion in arms of El Cid.

It defended one of the gates, known as the Puerta de la Feria or Alvarfáñez.
Now, after careful restoration, it houses an interesting exhibition on the origins of the City arms and the legend of Alvar Fáñez and his role in the conquest of Guadalajara. History and legend merge in the City arms.
Pentagonal in shape, it houses an interpretation centre on the reconquest of Guadalajara (1085), a deed that legend attributes to Alvar Fáñez de Minaya, nephew and companion in arms of El Cid.
