In Nerpio nature hollowed great sections of the Jurassic limestone, forming tunnels filled with cavities and shelters where a magnificent selection of examples of the creative capacity of prehistoric man can be seen.

From the simple shelters found, the most important are the Torcal de las Bojadillas and the Solana de las Covachas.

The earliest archaeological remains found in Nerpio Cultural Park date from the Mesolithic period.

The main subject of these cave paintings is man, who appears in various instances as the hunter, warrior , gatherer and agriculturalist; woman appears as dancer or gatherer. The animal species depicted most are goats, deer, bovines and equines.
