It is of Moorish origin, and the central nucleus dates from then, but it was rebuilt by Alonso de Covarrubias in the 16th century.
It is formed by two independent sections with two high crenelated walls that join them and forma courtyard between them.
The section facing the city is a round arch flanked by square towers topped by roofs with a coat of arms of Carlos V on the upper part.
The outer side, attributed to Covarrubias, is made up of rusticated hewn stone arches on which is supported a large coat of arms of the Imperial City, with its unmistakeable spread eagle. This entrance is flanked by two large circular crenelated towers.
