This museum houses most of the artistic works of the painter Antonio López Torres, according to his express wishes. He donated his works to the town that witnessed his birth and his death, Tomelloso.
The collection is made up of more than a hundred works, including canvasses and drawings, in which this master of Manchegan realist painting reflects better than anyone else, the light and landscapes of these lands; with nature and man as his only and constant source of inspiration. López Torres also developed the portrait and small tablets, a format in which he captures admirable landscapes in horizontal strips, with midday light as the principal element.
From his self-taught youth, when he was discovered by Ángel Andrade, it is worth mentioning the Self-Portrait (1921), a work in which his realism and shades of the naïve can already be glimpsed . From the 1930s, when he began his landscapes, The two ratfish, Boys in the field, My grandmother Juana and Landscape with children stand out. With the work Eating Watermelon he enters the 1940s, a period of maturity for the artist in which The Shepherd, Boys cutting grass and Children in the stubble, are his most representative works.
