Maritime Museum - Don Álvaro de Bazán Archive
The Maritime Museum is located in Viso del Marqués, in the old Palace of the Marquis de Santa Cruz, Don Álvaro de Bazán. It was built in the second half of the 16th century, by Italian artists, based on the ideas of the Renaissance. As well as building the structure, they also decorated all the walls of the palace with mannerist frescos.

Located in the historic Don Álvaro de Bazán Palace, this museum is also the seat of the Spanish General Historical Maritime Archives, with documents from the 18th to the 20th centuries.
In the Palace’s 8,000 m2 we can see interesting fresco paintings linked to the Maritime History of Spain, which tell the tales of the most famous battles. The entrance gives way to the hallway, patio and stairway, where there is an iconographic series exalting the military undertakings of the Marquis and his ancestors.
There are also reproductions of boats and armaments, carriages, cannons, armour and furniture of the era.
Because of its importance, the Palace was declared a National Monument in 1931.
