The Museum contains various archaeological collections from the 6th, 7th and 8th centuries, which show some of the historic-artistic remains of what was the old capital of the Visigoth kingdom of Toledo, including cymas, capitals, reliefs, epigraphs, paintings, documents and precious metalwork.
They also exhibit the funeral chests found in the Carpio de Tajo Necropolis, as well as excellent reproductions of the votive crowns from the Tesoro de Guarrazar (Guarrazar Treasure).
The church itself, is characterised by a basilica with three naves, separated by caliphal arches, supported on pillars attached to columns with re-used capitals (six of which are of Visigoth origin), apse chapel and a graceful tower. Of particular note are the dome of the apse by Covarrubias and the Diego de Velasco altarpiece. The frescos that cover the walls (13th century) contain marked Romanesque and Hispano-Arabic influences.
