World Heritage
In 1986 and 1996, respectively, Toledo and Cuenca were declared World Heritage Cities by UNESCO.
Toledo, World Heritage City
Known as the City of Three Cultures due to fact that Jews, Muslims and Christians lived together peacefully in the city for centuries, Toledo became a World Heritage City in 1986. Toledo s old town is truly an open-air museum. Its Cathedral, the majestic Monastery of "San Juan de los Reyes", the "Cristo de la Luz Mosque", the monumental Alcázar, the Synagogues of "El Tránsito" and "Santa María La Blanca", an endless list of interesting museums, convents and monasteries, the Bisagra, Sol and Cambrón Gates, a labyrinth of streets full of parapet walks, closed-off streets, and many other places which are simply a must see.

Cuenca, World Heritage City
Cuenca is always breathtaking, due to its exceptional location in natural surroundings of spectacular beauty. The image of the city is often linked to the gorges of the Rivers Huécar and Júcar where it is located, emerging from the rocks, and where we find the city s mythical attraction, its Hanging Houses. The focal point of any tour of the city is the Plaza Mayor [main square], where the visitor may enjoy sights such as the "Nuestra Señora de Gracia" Cathedral, the "Palacio Episcopal" and the Town Council building, which closes off the square and may be accessed through magnificent arches.
