Bodegas Illana
In the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous nobles chose to live in the town of Pozoamargo (Cuenca). It was in this period that Buenavista was born, an age-old estate of over 450 hectares which was created as a game preserve. At its heart we today find the Bodega Illana which can be easily recognised by its old dovecot which now forms part of the winery’s facilities and has become its most famous image.

“Tradition, craftsmanship and a strong family spirit” are the mottos which define this company which in 2003 built a medium-sized bodega or winery designed to be able to produce about 150,000kg of grapes and equipped with the latest technological innovations.
The bodega’s 100 hectares lie at an altitude of 750 metres at the centre of the Ribera del Júcar Designation of Origin on a high plateau with clayey, lime soil which is covered with rounded stones shaped by river action.
Maintaining and respecting the tradition of grape varieties in the local area with Cencibel, Bobal and small Muscatel grapes are the principles of this bodega, though it also grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, adding greater complexity to its wines.
