Pago Wines

Wines of recognised quality produced on certain plots in Spain are very special guarantees of origin under which it is attempted to protect certain singular wines, that are produced through a close relationship between vineyard and winery (like a French chateau), which have exceptional quality recognised both by specialists and by consumers.

Pago Wines
Type of Denomination of Origin
Approved Plot.

An approved plot (pago) is understood to be a certain district of land whose name is linked to the vineyard that yields the wines of recognised quality with special qualitative characteristics.

Legislation allows the possibility of a guarantee of origin consisting of a name of a wine growing place or plot that, because of its natural characteristics, the varieties of vines and growing systems, produces grapes from which distinctive wines are produced by means of specific preparation methods.

This means that each vineyard estate and its corresponding winery, provided that they comply with a series of very strict requirements, may obtain a guarantee of origin by itself. A new guarantee that increases the commercial possibilities for Spanish wines.

This new guarantee of origin may only be applied for by wineries that have a stable, consolidated history and have repeatedly deserved, during recent years high qualifications and public recognition of the quality of its wines.
