Hoces del Cabriel Strict Nature Reserve

Location

The Hoces del Cabriel Reserve is located to the south of the Contreras Reservoir, stretching some 12km along the riverside on its right bank.

Climate
A very pronounced Mediterranean climate. Due to its surface, there are a variety of micro-climates, due to shade-sun, protection-humidity differences and the variety of slope types, etc.

This park comprises a geological and plant mosaic that has remained practically untouched and isolated over time. It contrasts sharply with its surroundings and it is a top habitat for many endangered species such as the Golden Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle and the Otter. We can highlight the impressive formations carved by the River Cabriel that have produced sites such as Los Cuchillos and Las Hoces. To sum up, the site is considered a site with a great geology value due to its diversity, uniqueness and the beauty of its landscape, and also because of the presence of palaeontology sites and a rock side with rock paintings.
