Serranía de Cuenca Nature Reserve

Location

It is located in the northeast of the province of Cuenca. It can be reached from Madrid or Valencia by the A-3, leaving the road at exit 270 towards Caudete. Once there, take the CU-V-5003 towards Moya.

Climate
Climate: Within the surface of the park, there is a transition between the Mediterranean climate, in the lowest areas of the territory, and the general warm Mediterranean climate, in the mountain area.

The most famous site in the Serranía de Cuenca is the Enchanted City declared a National Interest Nature Site in 1929. It includes an impressive calcareous stone landscape, that is unique in the world and that has been sculpted by the erosion of water and the wind. Popular imagination has also left its footprint, by baptising the rock’s amazing forms with names reminding us of their shape and appearance: the Dog, the Whale, the Bridge, etc. Close to the Enchanted City we find the place known as Callejones de Las Majadas (Las Majadas Streets), where water, ice and the wind have eroded shapes in the rocks, producing a sort of stone streets with rare shapes. Like its neighbouring site, there is a route to discover this place, in just under two and a half hours. Another centre of tourist attraction is the source of the River Cuervo, declared a National Monument in 1999 due to being one of the best formations of travertine springs in Castilla- La Mancha. It is located in the surroundings of Vega del Codorno, where a fine waterfall of water surges from the west side of the mountain of Muela de San Felipe at an altitude of 1,500m.
