Chinchilla de Montearagón
The town of Chinchilla is among the oldest of the province of Albacete, a jewel of the Middle Ages almost fully preserved. It is a town raised upon a rocky hill that sticks out across the plain and it preserves a series of buildings that testify to its ancient and important past.

Chinchilla Montearagón preserves the beauty of its medieval street network, its houses dominated by the imposing shadow of the castle that watches over the plain.
Chinchilla is considered an Historical Artistic Site. Historic stone manors with coats of arms, testimony to the hidalgos (Spanish noblemen of the lowest grade) who lived in them in centuries past. Part of the population live in caves carved out of the side of the hill with picks.
Their Semana Santa (Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday), declared to be of Regional Cultural Interest, originated in 1586. The Classical Theatre Festival: Chinchilla, which takes place in July, enjoys great fame and prestige.
