In the cellars of Medrano's House in Medrano's Cave, Cervantes was imprisoned and spent his time thinking up and beginning his immortal literary work Don Quixote of La Mancha. Rubén Darío and Azorín visited this house in commemoration of the Tri-Centennial of Don Quixote. In the present day, Medrano's House is considered an Historical Artistic Monument.
Peñarroya Castle is one of the fortresses possessed by the Knights Hospitaller of La Mancha that have been preserved to the modern day. It is located on a cliff in El Parque Natural de las Lagunas de Ruidera (Ruidera's Lagoons Nature Preserve). This Nature Preserve is one of the most beautiful spots in the region, with a series of 15 lagoons across 25km, all interconnected via waterfalls, brooks and underground canals.
