One of the greatest treasures in Daimiel is Tablas de Daimiel National Park, the smallest National Park in Spain but also the largest “masegar” wetland in Western Europe. It is the last representative of a characteristic ecosystem in La Mancha called water tables.
Water tables are small bubbles of water within earthy surfaces that are kept full due to the balance between the accumulation of water from the surface and the water flow coming from underground aquifers. More than 250 species of aquatic bird are the protagonists of this ecosystem.
