Although the Fuencaliente area has been populated since pre-historical times, the village was born thanks to a thermal water spring that jets forth from beneath the Church. A hermitage was built at the location of the spring and this was the basis of the current village.
Human settlements in this area were first recorded in the Copper Age, the period that cave paintings on the rocky walls surrounding the village date back to. Roman and Arab remains are proof that these peoples already knew about the mineral and medicine properties of the village’s waters. The village dates back to medieval times, and its origin is linked to the "Reconquest", when Christians re-captured the Iberian Peninsula from the Arabs.
We can highlight its thermal baths, located in a beautiful place, with leafy trees and a large surface of pine trees. This area is known as the "Paraíso de los Monteros (Rider’s Paradise)", due to its abundant game and beautiful landscapes and the rugged peaks of the surrounding mountains, that are a unique spectacle.
