To speak of Valdepeñas is to speak of wine, of its history and of its culture. Each year, at the beginning of September, an homage to wine is held called the Fiestas del Vino (Wine Festival), considered of National Touristic Interest.
Surprising discoveries in the archaeological excavations in Cerro de las Cabezas show the presence of winemaking activity in this area over 2.500 years ago. Remains of advanced vinification (winemaking) equipment in strata dated to around the year 700 B.C. have been found in these excavations.
