Located in Viso del Marqués is the Marqués de Santa Cruz's Palace, considered a Historical Monument. This magnificent Renaissance-style palace, of Italian origin, is home to the General Naval Archive and the Navy Museum. It is the only palace in Spain that evokes the Italian lines of the great European palaces. It is considered a 15th century architectural treasure.
The Marquis of Santa Cruz was an Admiral of the Spanish Armada of renowned prestige and performed brilliantly in the Battle of Lepanto. In one of his voyages he brought back a gigantic Nile crocodile that lived in his palace until its death; the stuffed crocodile can be seen today in Nuestra Señora de la Asunción's Church.
