Built on top of a hill, the village preserves its medieval layout: centred around the castle and, originally, circled by village walls. The most interesting streets, dotted with manor houses with coats of arms, are those that start from the castle: Calle Corredera and Calle Horno. Various stretches of these streets are quite interesting for their medieval scenery and their Renaissance and Baroque façades and grills, dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Special trips in Castillo de Garcimuñoz
This village, considered an Historical Artistic Site, is home to a variety of interesting monuments. Of particular interest is a marvellous spot with house façades emblazoned with coats of arms of the nobility that show the relevance and grandeur of this village in the Middle Ages.
By the same token, the Barrio del Romeral Alto, an Arab quarter in the old medieval city with houses built in the traditional style, is quite interesting with its simple whitewashed structures that show how the Islamic population lived back then.
Notwithstanding, the Barrio Judío (Jewish Quarter), was also of great importance given that the village at one point came to be known as Garcijudea. This can be observed in the crude, whitewashed structure that was the old hospital next to what used to be the synagogue. In addition, the ruins of the Convento de los Agustinos (Augustinian Convent) are not to be missed. Nor should we miss the opportunity to visit the spot where Jorge Manrique was mortally wounded in battle, where there is now a commemorative monolith, and to discover the mountains, pine forests and springs in the surrounding area.
The commemorative cross in the place where Don Jorge Manrique drew his last breath is also worth a visit. Jorge Manrique was the author of Las Coplas a la Muerte de su Padre (Stanzas about the Death of his Father) and it is for this reason that Castillo de Garcimuñoz is a stop on the literary tour route.
