It is a delightful-looking village which sits on a mountainside on which the white of the village’s walls and the red of its roofs are drawn.
Its buildings are very modern but respect the traditional spirit.
The parish church contains elements from the 15th century, with modifications from the 18th century. On leaving the village, the River Escabas has created a narrow and craggy gorge which runs parallel to the road.
Fuertescusa is an entry point into the mountains which have been nicknamed the “Black Forest of Cuenca”, an area with abundant plant life, canyons, whimsical gorges (known as the Hoces de Escabas) and thick pine woods in which wolves, Spanish ibex, deer and other animals live.
