Minglanilla is a village located at the site of one of the most beautiful and inhospitable foothills of the River Cabriel, which has excavated a deep gorge with the passage of the centuries. On its riverside - shared with the Valencian towns of Villalgordo del Cabriel and Venta del Moro – the "Los Cuchillos o Cuchillares" (Knifes or Kniferies) and the Hoces del Río Cabriel (Gorges of the River Cabriel) were formed.
This formation which involves an oasis amid the dry plains of Castile, has a diverse ecosystem including carrasco pine-trees (the predominant species in scrublands), kermes oak, heath trees, strawberry trees, ephedra fragilis, wild lavender, junipers, Phoenician junipers, thyme, rosemary and esparto grass.
In this area we find the Hoces del Cabriel Nature Reserve, with a surface of 1,662 Ha., 95% of which are in the locality of Minglanilla, a site where a large variety of fauna is to be found: mountain goats, boars, lynxes, foxes, badgers, squirrels, genets and bobcats.
