The town was very relevant in the Medieval era and it is now in ruins. Its inhabitants abandoned the primitive urban site some twenty years ago, moving what was once a suburb of Moya, Santo Domingo de Moya, at the feet of the rocky hill where the old town is located. The old urban plant of the Villa together with its valuable remains, namely the Alcázar (fort), walls, churches and convents it has, make up a site of relevance, due to its value and size, as the main town in the Marquisate of Moya.

Special trips in Moya
The whole village is a small urban gem and a Medieval architecture treasure. It is possible to walk through the old village following the plan of its streets. In the square, one finds the Council, re-built in 1953 and refurbished in 1988. Facing it, thanks to recent refurbishment work, one finds the Church of Santa María. In addition, other churches such as the churches of Santa María, and the Santísima Trinidad, San Miguel, San Juan and San Bartolomé and the Convent of San Francisco can be visited, as well as the Convent of the Concepción Franciscana Nunnery.
