Poyatos
This is a mountain village located in the north of the province of Cuenca, in the Las Majadas mountain range, nearby the area known as the Vega del Codorno. As this is one of the best-preserved mountain villages, and it even has examples of medieval architecture, a stroll through Poyatos is quite interesting because of the monuments one can admire.

Location
It is situated 75kms to the north of the capital. It is linked to the villages in the mountains, by means of a local road that also links the village with the province capital and the Beteta to Carrascosa del Campo county road.

The space made up by the Arco del Concejo, a rectangular arch from the 15th – 16th centuries, which forms a covered passage in the street and provides access to the church building, the Town Council, a building with a severe appearance in stone with wooden balconies and the Church of Mary Magdalene, with its Gothic-Renaissance style with some additional buildings around it (the forge, remains of a wall and an ashlar turret).
In addition, there are remains of an old hospital, that is a cattle stable; remains of the bishop’s house; remains of the wall and remains of the old refuges for sheep and shepherds, used in livestock migration in the past, as Poyatos is on the Teruel to La Mancha track.
On the Tejadillos road there is a bridge over the River Escabas amid a magnificent nature site. The entire surrounding of the village is a succession of mountain nature sites, such as the Poyatos Ravine, or the beautiful site at Lagunillos, or the ”Fuente de la Tía Perra”, or the splendid nature site called Tejadillos with its mountain lodge, and the Monument to Wood, by Gustavo Torner.
