How to get there

Road transport

The village has been linked to the Ad Putea (The Wells) “mansion” which is mentioned in texts dating from the time of the Romans which refer to the road which linked Alcalá and Cartagena, hence the strategic importance of the village. Later, the village attracted a number of nobles who made their home here, leading to a period of splendour in the 17th and 18th centuries. Of its buildings we should mention the Herrerian-style Parish Church of La Santísima Trinidad (the Holy Trinity) which bears Baroque touches inside and has an interesting round arch doorway, the Stations of the Cross and an interesting font. Opposite the church is a house called the Casa-Costillas, also built in the Baroque style, as well as a house called the Casa-Sandoval, both of which recall the splendour mentioned earlier. Within the municipality there is a also a chapel called the Ermita de la Virgen de la Cabeza (Chapel of the Virgin of the Head) which may have been built on a Bronze Age settlement. In the chapel visitors can see a barrel vault covered in paintings in the style of El Greco. From the promontory, the whole of the fertile plain of the River Júcar can be seen, making it the ideal spot to enjoy the vineyards of the local Designation of Origin in all their glory.
