Víllora

Villora is a mountain village that belongs to the Serranía Baja County, in the province of Cuenca, and is located in the southern area of the Cuerdas mountain range. The environs surrounding this village are surprising because of the spectacular landscape, with railway viaducts over the River Cabriel. The most important viaduct is the one crossing the site called El Saladero. It was built in the 20th century, at the same time as the other viaducts. This work is important because of the way it integrates and blends in with the area's landscape, noted for its abrupt surfaces. It covers the stretch of rail tracks between Cuenca and Valencia. The El Saladero bridge has ten semicircular arches, at a considerable height.

Road transport

In the proximities of Km. 8 of the road between Villora and Mira, we find an outlying farm property, which was apparently built in the 16th to 17th centuries, and whose three buildings were used for different purposes. This complex is an important model of agricultural buildings. Due to its close proximity to the historical track, that is now a road, it may have been used as an inn. Inside the town, we find interesting buildings such as the church, a building of simple shapes, with a two-arch gable at the foot of the buildings, a semicircular front inset in an alfiz (panel), covered by artisan beams, that has a nave, chapel and sacristy. Located on a high peak, overlooking the urban centre, we find the castle or albarrana tower, a four storey Arab-style building, from the 12th century. There are also remains of the old site and a gate, although these ruins are deteriorated, as well as the remains of a vault. The building was mostly built with stone and mortar, with corner blocks in the tower section. The cornice is finished with later pieces added during the Gothic era, possibly dating from the 14th century. This is a fine example of a fortress.
