This medieval village with a Historical Artistic Site in Guadalajara was the domain of the Mendozas from 1368 until the end of the 16th century. It is currently a place of great interest, thanks to the Marquis of Santillana, Lord of Hita, who built many buildings and helped the village to become the area's commercial and agricultural hub.
One of the most famous figures of the village was the old Archpriest of Hita, Juan Ruiz, the author of one of the gems of Castilian literature: The Book of Good Love.

Special trips in Hita
This village owes a large part of its current splendour to b>don Íñigo López de Mendoza (Marquis of Santillana) who decided to reinforce the village’s defences in 1441 as well as building the castle at the top of the hill. He ordered the demolition of the old wall, believed to be a mud wall, to build a new stone wall. Some remains of the castle and sections of the walled area are still intact following their construction. Other remains have been refurbished or rebuilt.
It is also worth visiting the Church of San Juan Bautista and the b>Church of San Pedro.
