Special trips in Orea
The minimal remains of an old settlement or castle can be seen on the “Cerro de la Mezquita" (Mosque Hill); all the remains of the tower erected by the Council as a defence against attacks from the Lord of the nearby town of Motos. The parochial church is devoted to the Virgin of "La Asunción", it was built with ashlar and ashlar bond, in intensely red tones. To the west, the gable rises, finishing in a triangular-shaped edge. The access door is carved in the southern-looking wall, facing an open atrium, and it has a semi-circular voissoured arch. The inside of the building comprises two recently-renovated naves. The church has a large Baroque retable, with a painting of La Asunción and a carved sculpture of Saint John the Baptist. In a lateral altar there is a magnificent sculpted Christ. Other Baroque altars are devoted to Saint Roch, the Virgin of the Rosary and the Virgin of the Head.
The village is also well-known for the Casa Grande, a typical manor house from Molina, with a square plant, and a main door decorated with a number of plaster mouldings. The frames low windows and the upper windows are also decorated with Baroque mouldings. The coat of arms which was over the door was sold some years ago to antiques dealers. At the entry of the village, we find the Pairón de las Animas (a traditional column construction from the region), with reddish sand stone ashlar.
