- How to get there
- Road transport
It lies in the Amblés valley, on a hill between Amavida and Villatoro, Serrota to the south and Risco or Vadillo de la Sierra to the north. Poveda de la Sierra has a recently restored 16th-century church dedicated to Nuestra de Señora de los Remedios (Our Lady of Cures). Its most important festivity is held in the week of the 15th August, when the day of the Virgen de los Remedios (Virgin of the Cures) and the day of San Roque (St. Roch) are celebrated. San Blas (St. Blaise) is honoured on 3rd February, and there is the Candelas (“Candles”) festivity with a popular procession of the saint to a traditional musical accompaniment. Santa Barbara (St. Barbara) is honoured on 21st July, although her saint’s day is actually the 4th December, because a storm was once brewing on this day and in fear of it bringing hail, the statue of the saint was taken out in a procession and as a result, only water fell from the skies.
