Special trips in Torija
The Castle, from the 15th century, is a fortress built by the Mendoza family, which was closely linked to Torija since their arrival in Castile. It has a square layout with three cylinder-shaped tubes and a slender Tower of Tribute.
The Museum dedicated to the book 'Journey to La Alcarria’ is located in the Tower of Tribute of the fortress.
The Parish Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (16th century) is in the Gothic-Renaissance style and it was erected on a former Romanesque temple.
From post-Mediaeval days is the Picota (16th century), when it was granted the title of Villa by the King and the Picotilla (18th century).
At the foot of the castle is the Plaza de la Villa, which conserves the character of old Castilian squares surrounded by arcades.
The old arcades of the ancient marketplace also surround the Plazuela de the Iglesia (17th century) and the remains of the old mediaeval wall, known as La Barbacana, are presently used as a balcony.
