Valtablado del Río is a village in the Province of Guadalajara. Part of its municipal area lies within the Alto Tajo Nature Park.

Countless Celtiberian settlements stood here. These were subsequently Romanised and then for a long time remained under Muslim rule.
At the end of the 10th century and beginning of the 11th, successive Christian monarchs gave impetus to the conquest of the Muslim territories. In what is now the Province of Guadalajara, it was the Monarchs of Castile who bore the brunt of the war.
