To discover Almorox is to discover a place full of charm, evocations of Lazarillo de Tormes (the central character of a famous Spanish picaresque novel) and surrounding scenery waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.
As Lazarillo de Tormes tells us, it was here in Almorox that he and the blind man he could not be separated from were given a bunch of grapes from a vintager as alms. Today wines of the Vinos de Méntrida Designation of Origin are produced in Almorex, wines made from the same grapes which the blind man and Lazarillo tasted.
Almorox invites you to come and discover the surrounding pine groves, the ˆParish Church of San Cristóbal (St. Christopher), the Rollo Jurisdiccional (a stone column which once represented municipality’s independence) and the town hall.
On Carnival Sunday each year (the last Sunday before Lent) the “Sargentería” (a brotherhood of “sergeants”) can be seen parading around the village streets. Why wait to learn more about Almorox?
