Oropesa

Visiting and discovering Oropesa is travelling to a medieval town spotted with monumental buildings such as convents, churches and palaces. Its powerful castle, of a defiant appearance, confronts us from the motorway linking Madrid and Extremadura. The castle is now a Parador (state-run hotel) and it is a majestic addition to a village preserving and proudly showing the wealth of its monuments and landscapes. Each year in April, Oropesa dresses up in medieval costume to celebrate its Medieval Festivals. Would you like to take part?

Oropesa is a town in the province of Toledo.
It is located between the Sierra de Gredos (Gredos Mountains) and the River Tajo, nearby the town of Talavera de la Reina.
The Álvarez family from Toledo endeavoured for years to turn Oropesa into the capital of the county, a true noble fortress.
Today, its important buildings are the witnesses which remind us of its historical past. the Castle, the Church of San Bernardo, known as the The Company, theParochial Church of La Asunción, several convents dispersed throughout the town and other civil buildings round up this monumental town surrounded by environs of great beauty, the area known as Campo Arañuelo and the County of Oropesa.
