How to get there
Road transport

Barely 24km from the city of Toledo, Sonseca is a very pleasant place to rest, eat well, enjoy nature and, incidentally, buy sweets and marzipan which have been made here using traditional methods for many years and, although production has now been industrialised, the result is still unbeatably tasty. And whilst in Sonseca you can also visit any of its many wood furniture factories and shops. Furniture in every style possible but with one thing in common: high quality.

In Sonseca visitors will find the Parish Church of San Juan ante Portam Latinam (St. John ante portam latinam), the Mudejar Chapel of the Cristo de la Vera Cruz (Christ of the True Cross), the Chapel of La Virgen de los Remedios (Virgin of Cures), the Chapel of San Gregorio (St. Gregory), and the 7th-century Church of San Pedro de la Mata (St. Peter of “La Mata”) in an almost uninhabited district called Casalgordo.

Sonseca’s festivities are dotted all around the year and begin in May with festivities in honour of its patron saint, San Juan Evangelista (St. John the Evangelist); a few days later there is a romería or procession in honour of San Gregorio (St. Gregory) on 9th May; the Virgen de los Remedios is honoured in festivities around 8th September when the statue of the Virgin is taken care of during the procession by a lay brotherhood of halberdiers. And in additional to this, Sonseca hosts important theatre festivities.
